College Rutgers Duo, Reed and Skorski, Selected in 2016 NWSL College Draft Reed and Skorski joining pro ranks. by Gregg Snyder January 15, 2016 (Rutgers Athletics) The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) held their 2016 College Draft on Friday during the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Convention in Baltimore. Rutgers women’s soccer star duo Brianne Reed and Erica Skorski were selected 18th and 23rd. respectively. Reed was selected with the eighth pick in the second round by two-time defending NWSL Champion FC Kansas City. Just a few picks later, Sky Blue FC selected Skorski with the third pick in the third round. The star center back duo helped lead Rutgers to it’s best season in program history. The team was No. 4 in the final NSCAA rankings and achieved program records in wins (19), shutouts (19), home wins (13), and fewest goals allowed (10). The Scarlet Knights closed 2015 with the best goals-against average (0.375) and shutout percentage (.731) in the nation. Reed was a three-year starter for the Scarlet Knights, finishing her college career with three goals and five assists. She now joins a loaded FC Kansas City roster that includes players such as newly acquired Sydney Leroux, Becky Sauerbrunn, Yael Averbuch, and Heather O’Reilly. Skorski, a two-time captain for the Scarlet Knights, was named a 2015 NSCAA Second Team All-American and the 2015 Big Ten Defender of the Year. She scored five goals and tallied four assists for 14 points in her Rutgers career. The U.S. Under-23 Women’s National Team called Skroski up Thursday for a training camp at the U.S. Soccer National Training Center in Carson, Calif., from Jan. 18–25. Being selected by Sky Blue FC allows Skorksi to continue her career playing on Yurcak Field, home for Rutgers women’s soccer as well as Sky Blue FC.
