Rutgers Football: Meet incoming JUCO Transfer Isaiah Johnson, a Candidate to Start at Middle Linebacker for the Knights

Rutgers lost a leader in Kevin Snyder who graduated this past May. Isaiah Johnson, who played 2 years of junior college football in California. is very much in the mix to fill that slot He will look to bring his brand of football to the banks of the Raritan in 2015.

On how playing junior college football differs from coming out of high school….

“I certainly feel more prepared, Junior college it’s a bit of an upgrade from high school, obviously bigger guys and the speed of the game is faster so I am more prepared” [for college football]

On how he settled on Rutgers…

“Coach Flood came to one of my practices, he liked my film and I eventually got to meet him and I eventually I met coach Frasier. I liked the vibe.”

On what he knew of Rutgers before committing to Coach Flood…

“All I knew it was on the east coast and I knew some of the NFL players from the program”

On what he hopes to get out of Spring practice…

“I hope to get all my plays down, and know the playbook and my assignments and be ready to play”

On what kind of defense he likes to play….

“I fit in any scheme, I am pretty versatile, I can do a lot of things on the field it is a matter of where they put me”

On being a leader…

“The middle linebacker position is a big leadership role, I embrace being a leader. Right now its’ difficult to be a leader I am barely learning where I have to be, once I get that down I can expand a leadership role. Right now I’m trying to lead by example, by my work ethic…pushing other guys”

On what kind of player Rutgers fans can expect to see on Saturdays…

I have a lot of intensity and passion for the game, I play with a lot of passion I am all over the field, I like to make plays and make people around ,me better.
