Rutgers Football Recruiting Update

Who is committed to Rutgers’ recruiting class of 2016 so far?

Rutgers’ recruiting class of 2016 thus far is shaping up nicely. While there has been a de-commit (offensive lineman Ted Field), and disappointing big-name quarterback misses (Jarrett Guarantano/Dwayne Haskins Jr.), head coach Kyle Flood and company should be excited.

“I’m excited about where we’re at,” Flood said Tuesday at a charity golf outing according to NJ.com’s Keith Sargeant. “I really like the players that are committed to us. It’s a long way until signing day. Everybody knows that. But I’m excited about the ones that are committed to us, and I’m excited about the relationships that we have with a lot of really good players in the state of Rutgers.”

There are currently five prospects verbally committed to the Scarlet Knights, and according to 247Sports.com, the class is presently national ranked 45th in the country, and eighth out of 14 teams in the Big Ten Conference. Ohio State leads the conference with 15 commits.

Let’s take a quick glance on who has pledged to Rutgers:

1) Mohamed Jabbie (South Brunswick, N.J.) – Jabbie is a three-star wide receiver from South Brunswick High School. While Jabbie caught only five passes for 83 yards according to NJ.com (South Brunswick runs the triple-option attack), and his highlights feature more defensive back plays, the 5-11, 165-pound receiver had a standout performance during a Rutgers camp at wide out. Like his uncle and former Scarlet Knight and current Cincinnati Bengal Mo Sanu, Jabbie has worked on his route running and will hope to follow in his footsteps when he gets to Rutgers.

2) Jonathan Pollock (Dr. Phillips, Orlando, Fl.) – Pollock, a three-star linebacker recruit out of Florida has made multiple trips to campus. The 6-1, 212-pounder was a captain for Team USA’s Under-18 squad in the International Bowl against Team Canada back in January. Jabbie was also a member of the team. Pollock originally committed to Mississippi State in the summer of 2013.

3) Nick Krimin (St. Joe’s Metuchen, N.J.) – Krimin is a mammoth of an offensive lineman for the Falcons standing at 6-foot-5, 320-pounds. According to Todderick Hunt of NJ Advance Media, the three-star recruit “plays with good flexibility, balance and agility. He displays good initial quickness and the ability to reach block the defensive end.”

4) Trey Sneed (Fleming Island, Orange Park, Fl.) – Sneed is a 5-11, 198-pound running back out of Florida who according to Hunt, has relationships with 2015 Rutgers wide receiver signee Rashad Blunt, Pollock, and former Scarlet Knight Jawan Jamison. While Sneed did a lot of his work out of the “wildcat” formation, something Rutgers fans never want to see again, the running back has great change of direction cutting ability to go along with some speed. According to Hunt, Sneed’s high school coach said he will play his natural running back position as a senior. The Fleming Island product will likely have to sit behind talented sophomores already on the roster in Josh Hicks and Robert Martin as well as incoming freshman Charles Snorweah.

5) Anthony Russo (Archbishop Wood, Warminster, Pa.) The quarterback of the class, Russo just committed to the Scarlet Knights on Monday at a small ceremony at his school. The 6-3, 215-pounder is a three-star recruit after totaling 1,551 passing yards to go along with 22 touchdowns as a junior – his first year as the starting varsity signal caller. Russo was pleased with his decision saying, “I don’t care if I am a five-star or a two-star,” according to scarletnation.com. “I didn’t need every offer in the country, I just needed the right one. I feel like with Rutgers, I got the right offer that I needed.”
