Rutgers got off to a bad start allowing Michigan to get off to a 3-0 lead in the first stanza until Ryan Hollingsworth got RU on the board to get the Knights within a pair of goals to start the second frame. Rutgers played a wonderful second quarter to get itself in position to win the game. Brian Goss and Scott Bieda struck within two minutes of each other to knot the game 3-3. After UM took a brief lead, Rutgers stormed back with a pair of tallies to close out the quarter. Bieda scored his second of the game, and 25th of the season and Jules Heningburg added his 14th of the year to give RU a 5-4 lead headed into the half. The third quarter however did in the Scarlet Knights. Michigan erupted for 6 goals while Rutgers only was able to strike once leaving the Knights down 10-6 to start the fourth. Rutgers tried to get itself back in the game defending well and scoring a pair of goals but could draw no closer than 10-8 and saw itself fall to 0-2 and in the basement of the Big Ten. In the loss, Scott Bieda scored 7 points for Rutgers and Joe Nardella was brilliant again on faceoffs registering 16 wins in 22 attempts. RU finally gets a conference home game when it plays one of the favorites to win the league, the University of Maryland on the weekend.
