College Rutgers Men’s Lacrosse Picks up Huge Road win at Army, Improves to 2-0 by Jayson Love February 20, 2016 West Point, NY – The Rutgers men’s lacrosse team showed glimpses of what it could become upsetting Ohio State to close out what was an otherwise disappointing 2015 season – today, it has actual validation. After opening the season with a nice road win at St. John’s, R.U. traveled to West Point to take on perennial lacrosse powerhouse Army. Although not ranked in the top 20, the Black Knights of the Hudson were receiving votes toward a national ranking and were favorites at Michie Stadium defeat Rutgers on Saturday afternoon. However, Rutgers flipped the script. In a game that RU never trailed until the 4th quarter, Rutgers looked the better team throughout. Despite falling behind 11-10 when Nick Santorelli netted for Army, the Knights would score the game’s last three tallies including the game-sealing empty netter by freshman standout Adam Charalambides. Charalambides, who opened the season with 6 goals against St. John’s, backed up his performance with 4 goals against the Cadets and already has 10 goals just 2 games into his career. Charalambides, was joined in attack by Jules Heninburg who scored 3 goals on the day, pacing the Scarlet Knights. One of Heninburg’s goals tied the score at 11 just 1:45 after Army had taken its only lead of the match. Moments later, senior captain Scott Bieda scored his 6th of the season to regain the lead for his squad, and Rutgers would see the game out for the improbable 13-11 win against the highly thought of Army Black Knights. Rutgers is now 2-0 and ought to be turning heads on the men’s lacrosse scene. The Scarlet Knights are quietly on a 3 game winning streak dating back to last season, and will take momentum into their home opener next weekend against Fairfield University.
