Rutgers Scarlet Knights Women’s Basketball Loses to FSU in Tallahassee

The Rutgers University Scarlet Knights women’s basketball team traveled to Tallahassee, FL to take on Florida State on Thursday night. This game was part of the Women’s Big Ten/ACC Challenge.

Ariel Butts committed two fouls and the Seminoles took a 4-0 early lead. That 4-0 lead was extended to 8-2 after Kahleah Cooper, who scored the Knights’ first points of the game, committed a foul to allow FSU to shoot free throws.

Leticia Romero was the leading scorer for the Noles, scoring 11 points in the first quarter. Florida State lead by a score of 19-4. The Knights had not scored a single bucket in the final 5:40 in the quarter.

The Lady Knights began a run and the closest the game got for them was 25-14. The Noles had a scoring drought of 3:34. They lead 34-16 over the Knights at halftime.

Shakayla Thomas scored 10 points on 5-7 shooting through the third quarter for the Noles. They lead the Knights by a score of 47-28 at the end of the third quarter.

The Knights began the fourth quarter on a 5-2 run to make the score 49-33 with 7:30 left. While it was looking bleak, the Lady Knights were still in the game. However, the Noles would pull away and win the game by a score of 65-43.

The Knights will head back to Piscataway for a five-game homestand. The first game will be on Sunday at 2 p.m ET against the Arkansas Razorbacks.
