Feature Sasha Banks fulfills her destiny by becoming the new WWE Women’s Champion by Daniel Yanofsky July 26, 2016 Right when she debuted on the main roster last year, it was only a matter of time until Sasha Banks became a champion in WWE. The question was really simple: When? For years, fans have been waiting for her to get her moment. Since her days in NXT, “The Boss” has worked hard to get where she is today. Last night, all of her hard work paid off. Last night, her ultimate goal since she was 10 was reached. Last night, Sasha Banks became the NEW WWE Women’s Champion. httpss://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8EOhZQzB4Ko On the first official night of WWE’s latest version of the brand extension, the company pulled out all of the stops to make last night the best Raw in quite some time. When the match between Charlotte and Sasha was announced, I’m sure a few people assumed there would be some shenanigans involved in this match. The obvious conclusion would have been a screwy finish that would lead to a rematch at SummerSlam. In a great, organic moment, “The Boss” won the title, even using mannerisms of her idol Eddie Guerrero during the match. The way Sasha reacted after watching the match was perfect. It looked like she achieved her dream because she did. The crowd chanting “you deserved it” was fantastic. Its rare when a main roster crowd can show emotion like that (compared to a hot NXT crowd). Although Charlotte looked upset after losing the title, you can tell how happy she was for Sasha. If you look close enough you can see her trying to hide a smile. *There are many, including myself, who would have loved to see Sasha win the title at SummerSlam in front of a passionate New York City crowd. Moments like these are never bad though. I’m sure the reaction when she enters the ring on August 21st will be electric regardless.* A few days before the triple threat match for the then Divas Championship at WrestleMania 32, I discussed how hard Sasha, Becky Lynch and Charlotte worked to get to that point. Before WWE announced it, I wanted the company to eliminate the term “diva” so these WRESTLERS could be taken seriously. I am proud to say after a few months that the Women’s Division is in great hands. I am proud to say these women fought hard and gained the respect that women’s wrestling deserves. I am also proud of Sasha Banks for getting the job done. Do me a favor: Listen to Sasha’s theme song, “Sky’s the Limit” by CFO$. It’s one of those songs that can get stuck in your head (another being Sami Zayn and Shinsuke Nakamura’s theme). A point to take away from the song are these lines: Destined to break in I found my way yeah Now ain’t nobody gonna take it Cause a girl gonna push ’em all out the way Her destiny has been fulfilled, and now its up to her to make sure it stays that way. I’m sure she is up to that challenge. If you’ll excuse me, I’ll be patiently waiting for her and Bayley to main event a PPV again. I’m sure I won’t be the only one. Just like her cousin Snoop Dogg stated during her WrestleMania entrance: “Bow down to the new champ of WWE”. Its the era of “The Boss” now. Its Sasha’s world, we are just living in it.
