Seton Hall University men’s basketball coach Kevin Willard was named Big East Co-Coach of the Year with Villanova head coach Jay Wright on Wednesday prior to the start of the Big East Tournament.

Willard, in his sixth season as head coach of the Pirates led his team to a 22-8 overall record including a 12-6 record in conference play. Willard has also guided Seton Hall to a third place conference finish, as well as the programs first trip back to the NCAA Tournament since 2006.

Willard, who came into the 2015-16 season on a very hot seat, righted the Pirates’ ship and has done a tremendous job transforming his young team into a group of mature sophomores.

“I have to thank my players,” Willard said after receiving his award at MSG. “They have sacrificed and have worked so hard.”

Willard and his team will be back in action on Thursday when the Pirates take on Creighton at 9:30 p.m.
