The Seton Hall men’s basketball team defeated Dartmouth 84-67 on Friday night at the Prudential Center in Newark.

Leading the Pirates was sophomore guard Isaiah Whithead with 18 points, eight assists and five rebounds.

“Isaiah played terrific,” Seton Hall Head Coach Kevin Willard said. “For his first game being ‘the guy’ he played really well and is just going to get better.”

Also contributing to the win was graduate student Derrick Gordon and sophomores Ismael Sanogo and Desi Rodriguez. Gordon contributed 14 points and had five assists, Sanogo had nine points and eight boards and Rodriguez had 12 points and five boards.

“Ish put in a lot of hard work over the summer,” Willard said. “He played with a lot of composure and energy.”

Sanogo felt that he was well prepared and ready to go.

“Competition in practice is game-like, so I was very prepared.”

“Gordon gives the team a sense of maturity and calmness,” Willard explained. “He’s such a pleasure to coach.”

Gordon has been referred to as a leader with experience as he has been to two NCAA Tournaments.

“I wasn’t trying to rush stuff,” Gordon said. “ I’m taking more of a leadership role this year and trying to lead my team.”

Dartmouth was led by Connor Boehm who had 16 points, and freshman Evan Boudreaux who had a game high 25 points.

The Pirates did struggle at the foul line, shooting 51 percent (22-43), which kept Dartmouth in the game until late in the second half.

The Pirates will be back in action on Sunday at 1:30 in historic Walsh Gymnasium when they take on Wagner.
