Football Sharks Fall To Vixen In Playoffs by Staff Post July 13, 2016 December 11, 1999, marked an intense battle on the gridiron between the New York Sharks and the Minnesota Vixen. This past Saturday was no different as these two teams met for the first time since their last battle 17 years ago. Both teams ended the regular season with a perfect 8-0 record. This game was a playoff game that was 17 years in the making as both teams are the longest operating teams in women’s football. The Sharks are not going to go down without a fight and have proved that every season since they were established. The Sharks started the game strong by scoring first and from there it was a back and fourth affair. The first half of the game ended with the Vixen leading 27-20 and the Sharks only being down by one score. The second half would start on a high note for the Sharks as they would score twice to tie the game 34-34 to end the third quarter. Regulation time would end in a tie, forcing overtime. Much like the last time both of these teams played each other, the game was close. The Sharks got on a roll in overtime, driving down the field quickly with their running game. The game would then end as the Sharks were on the verge of scoring on the two yard line and could not convert. They would select to go to a passing play instead of running the ball because they were playing the Vixen to defend against the run. . This was a heartbreaking loss for the Sharks as the game could have went either way as both teams played a tough game. The Minnesota Vixen would be the victors in this game and punched their ticket to the IWFL Championship Game on July 23.
