Baseball SI Yankees Take Series For Lowell, Have Won Seven of Last Ten by Staff Post August 9, 2016 (Photo by Wendell Cruz – Double G Media) The Staten Island Yankees continued their winning ways last night as they defeated Lowell in the rubber game of the series, 4-1. The Yankees are playing great baseball, having gone 7-3 in their last 10 games. Hudson Valley still remains up one game as they have won four games in a row. The Yankees once again got on board in the first inning, unleashing two runs on a combination of a walk, stolen base, single, and home run. Dom-Thompson Williams started the game with a leadoff walk. He would then steal second base, his 14th of the season. Two batters later, Drew Bridges would single Williams home to score the first run of the game. Bridges continues to hit the ball well as he is in the top 10 in batting average, at .308. Bridges would attempt to steal second, however, Lowell catcher Jhon Nunez gunned him down. Timmy Robinson finished the inning with a solo home run to left field, his 5th of the year. Lowell would answer with a run of their own in the top of the 2nd on a double by catcher Jhon Nunez. However, they would not score for the rest of the game as Chad Martin held them in check. Martin would receive his first win of the year as he pitched five strong innings, allowing one run and striking out nine Lowell batters. In 11 innings pitched this season, Martin has allowed only one run and is showing that he is a prominent pitching prospect for the Yankees organization. Josh Roeder would pitch three scoreless innings in relief for his 4th hold of the year. Chad Taylor would come on in the 9th for his first save of the season. The Baby Bombers will be back in action tonight against Aberdeen for the first of a three game set. Game time is set for 7:05 PM.
