626blogsrecapBridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots (40-24) defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (36-27) 10-6 at TD Bank Ballpark on Monday evening.

 

Trailing 6-4 in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Patriots rallied for a six-run inning. Alfredo Rodriguez got the scoring started with an RBI double and scored on an error that tied up the game. Kyle Roller then gave Somerset the lead with an RBI single. Greg Golson drove in a run with a base hit and Carlos Guzman followed with a two-run double for the 10-6 final.

 

“I’ve been trying to get a little better every day,” said Rodriguez, who finished the game 3-for-3 with four runs and an RBI. “I’m trying to simplify things, stay aggressive, and just try to help the team with a good at bat each time.”

 

The Patriots took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Olmo Rosario.

 

The Blue Crabs jumped in front in the top of the third inning on a two-run home run by Jose Lozada (3).

 

Somerset grabbed the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning with two runs on an RBI single by Christian Marrero and an RBI fielder’s choice by Roller.

 

Southern Maryland tied up the game on Lozada’s (4) second home run of the game in the top of the sixth inning.

 

The Patriots regained the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly by Golson that made the score 4-3.

 

The Blue Crabs came right back, taking the lead with a three-run eighth inning, highlighted by RBI singles by Edwin Garcia and Cory Vaughn for a 6-4 advantage.

 

Kyler Newby (2-3) picked up the win, allowing a run on two hits in an inning pitched. Zack Thornton (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing five runs (none earned) in 0.1 innings pitched.

 

The 2017 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Tuesday, June 27th with a 7:05 pm game against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.
