Skeeters Take Finale Over Patriots 3-1

Bridgewater, NJ- The Sugar Land Skeeters (16-9) defeated the Somerset Patriots (15-7) 3-1 at TD Bank Ballpark on Thursday afternoon.

Courtney Hawkins’ leadoff home run (7) in the top of the second inning gave the Skeeters a 1-0 advantage.

Sugar Land plated another run in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Hawkins that made the score 2-0.

The Skeeters scored their third and final run on a double play in the top of the sixth inning.

The Patriots got on the board with their lone run in the bottom of the eighth inning when Scott Kelly scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead to 3-1.

“I feel that Sugar Land did a good job of holding us off,” said Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie. “Our pitchers held us in there for the day. We had a few threats in there late, but I think that if we could have pushed something across early, that would have made a big difference.”

Konner Wade (2-1) picked up the win with five scoreless innings pitched, scattering four hits and recording three strikeouts. Kyle Davies (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing two earned runs on three hits and six strikeouts in four innings pitched.

The 2018 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Friday, June 1st when the team returns to TD Bank Ballpark for a 7:05 pm game against the Road Warriors. The game includes Pocket T-Shirts (1st 2,000 Fans) presented by Middlesex County College. For tickets, visit www.somersetpatriots.com.
