Somerset adds 2015 Championship Series MVP Merritt

The Somerset Patriots and Long Island Ducks series just got a little more interesting.

Somerset announced the signing of 2015 Championship series MVP left-handed pitcher Roy Merritt, per release.

His first stint with the Patriots lasted from 2012-2015.

The southpaw hurled a complete game shutout in a pivotal game five against none other than the Ducks. The Patriots would defeat the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in 2015 en route to a sixth Atlantic League title.

In the postseason, Merritt is 3-0 with a 0.40 ERA.

Merritt began the 2019 campaign tossing for the Sugar Land Skeeters and appeared in 11 games posting a 3.70 ERA in 56 innings.

The Houston, Texas native is expected to be on the mound tonight for the middle of Somerset’s three-game series against Long Island.
