Somerset Patriots Add MLB Infielder Jermaine Curtis

Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots have signed Major League infielder Jermaine Curtis for the 2018 season. He is active for Tuesday night’s game against the New Britain Bees.

Curtis enters his first season with the Somerset Patriots and first in the Atlantic League. The former fifth-round draft pick spent the first seven years of his professional career in the St. Louis Cardinals organization. That included five games in the majors with the Cardinals in 2013. His best season in the Cardinals organization came in 2012, where he hit .310 with a .419 on-base percentage over 113 games split between Double-A Springfield and Triple-A Memphis. 

The Panorama City, California native has spent parts of each of the last seven seasons at the Triple-A level, including two exclusive years in Triple A with the Cincinnati Reds organization (2015-16). He hit a combined .296 between Double-A Midland and Triple-A Nashville in the Oakland Athletics organization last year before joining the Minnesota Twins system this year.

Curtis began his 2018 campaign with Triple-A Rochester in the Twins organization. He hit a home run with 10 RBI, 24 walks and a .352 OBP over 42 games with the Red Wings this year.

The UCLA product has displayed a consistent ability to get on base throughout his career. He owns a career .382 OBP over his 11-year professional career, including .374 OBP over seven seasons in Triple A and a .414 OBP over four seasons at Double A.

Curtis has hit .273 with 28 home runs, 325 RBI and 65 stolen bases over 11 seasons in professional baseball.
