Baseball Somerset Patriots Sign Catcher Adam Weisenburger by Somerset Patriots March 23, 2018 Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots have signed catcher Adam Weisenburger for the 2018 season. “I am very excited to get started with this new opportunity,” said Weisenburger. “I have heard nothing but great things about Somerset. I’ve heard they are a first-class organization that does things the right way.” Weisenburger enters his first season with the Somerset Patriots and first in the Atlantic League. The right-handed backstop spent the first seven seasons of his professional career in the Milwaukee Brewers organization. That includes three years of service at the Triple-A level (2014, 2016-17). He owns a .355 career on-base percentage in the minors, and has never had an OBP lower than .320 over the course of a single season. Known primarily for his defense, the Minneapolis, Minnesota native was twice named by Baseball America as the top defensive catcher in the Brewers organization (2013-14). With 2,616 chances behind the plate, Weisenburger has committed just 41 errors. Additionally, he has thrown out potential base-stealers at a 28% clip over his career. “The catcher is an integral part of any team and we have been very fortunate in our past to have had stellar leadership and performance from our backstops. We feel we have another good one in Weisenburger,” said Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie. “Adam enjoys the mental side of the game in pitch calling. He takes pride in working closely and personally with every pitcher on the staff. He will be very good defensively for us, but he hopes to take the next step as a complete catcher. We are excited to get Weisenburger into camp to get started.” Weisenburger enjoyed a strong winter in the Australian Baseball League where he hit .292 with six home runs and 22 RBI over 34 games with the Brisbane Bandits. He has 19 home runs and 131 RBI over his seven-year professional career. The Somerset Patriots led the Atlantic League in attendance and made their 14th appearance in the playoffs last season. The Somerset Patriots will welcome their 7,000,000th fan in their 20th season at TD Bank Ballpark in 2018. Tickets are now on sale for the 2018 Season presented by Ford beginning at home on Friday, April 27th. For more information, please visit www.somersetpatriots.com.
