Baseball Somerset Patriots Sign RHP Scott McGregor by Somerset Patriots April 11, 2016 Bridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots have announced the signing of right-handed pitcher Scott McGregor. “I heard that the Patriots won the Atlantic League championship last year, so it is real exciting to join the team,” said McGregor. “I had a great talk with [manager] Brett [Jodie} about my role this year, and look forward to playing in a new league.” McGregor enters his first season with the Somerset Patriots and first in the Atlantic League. The righty spent the first five years of his career in the St. Louis Cardinals organization. He played with Triple-A Memphis in 2013 and 2014. McGregor later signed with the Washington Nationals organization in the middle of the 2014 season, and continued to split time between Double-A Harrisburg and Triple-A Syracuse that year before spending all of 2015 with Syracuse. The Cincinnati, Ohio native has recorded 14 wins at the Triple-A level in 62 appearances (49 starts) over the last two years. He went 6-6 over 27 games (15 starts) with Syracuse last year. McGregor’s best season came in 2013, when he combined to win 10 games over 25 starts between Double-A Springfield and Memphis in the Cardinals organization. That included a 4-1 record with a 2.44 ERA and 48 strikeouts over 48 innings pitched with Springfield. “Scott was recommended to us by some people we highly trust,” manager Brett Jodie said. “We were told he is a high-character guy, hard worker and a very solid addition to our pitching staff. Scott has had much success in the minors both as a starter and a reliever. He is a strike-thrower that has the ability for high strikeouts, but likes to use his defense to keep the pitch total down. We are excited to have him as part of our 2016 Patriots staff.” The 2008 15th-round draft pick is 46-47 with a 4.43 ERA, two saves and 447 strikeouts over his seven-year professional career. The Somerset Patriots won their Atlantic League leading sixth championship during the 2015 season.
