Somerset Patriots To Host Amazin’ Mets Night On Sunday, August 9th

metsnightnewsBridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots have announced that they will be hosting Amazin’ Mets Night on Sunday, August 9th at TD Bank Ballpark. The first pitch against the Sugar Land Skeeters is scheduled for 5:05 p.m.

 

Join the Patriots as they welcome special guests from the 1969 World Series Champion New York Mets team, including Art Shamsky, Ed Kranepool and Ed Charles. All three will be recognized on the field prior to the game, throw out first pitches, and then sign autographs of the concourse for the first few innings of the game.

 

Shamsky was traded to the Mets before the 1968 season and was a major part of the 1969 World Championship team. During the 1969 season, Shamsky hit .300 and then led the Mets in the National League Playoffs with a .537 batting average against the Atlanta Braves.

 

Kranepool spent all 18 seasons of his Major League Baseball career with the New York Mets and was inducted into the New York Mets Hall of Fame in 1990. He appeared in 1,853 games and had 1,418 hits, 225 doubles, 118 home runs, and 614 RBI in his time in New York.

 

Charles was traded to the Mets in 1967 and led the team in home runs the following season with 15. He played in four of the five World Series games and scored the winning run in Game Two. Charles was the oldest member of the “Miracle Mets” at the age of 36.

 

In addition to the special guests, the Somerset Patriots will be raffling off New York Mets tickets and items for fans to win throughout the game.

 

There will be a pregame Autograph Session presented by Somerset County Park Foundation with all the Patriots players and coaches at 4:00 p.m.

 

After the game, all kids will get to run the bases in The Beez Foundation Diamond Derby.
