Somerset’s Kubiak tabbed as Pitcher of the Month

Somerset Patriots pitcher David Kubiak has been named the Pitcher of the Month for April/May, according to a release the league put out Wednesday morning.

Kubiak had a perfect record of 4-0 and a league-best 0.95 ERA and broke the team record for consecutive scoreless innings which stood at 23.1 in a 1-0 win on May 29 against the Sugar Land Skeeters.

The remarkable streak was halted at 33.2 scoreless innings in the eighth frame against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on June 4 where he retired 10 batters in eight innings and hurled a total of 113 pitches, 71 of which were strikes.

“It’s great to receive this award. It is obviously something that was not attained by myself,” said Kubiak. “I have to give [catcher Yovan Gonzalez] at least half, if not more, of the credit. Especially with the scoreless inning streak, which I know doesn’t happen without him.”

High Point’s Dante Bichette Jr. was named Player of the Month for April/May batting .414, with 20 RBI and a .999 OPS.
