On Thursday, the Chicago Cubs announced a multi-year partnership with DraftKings. As part of the deal, a sportsbook will be built at Wrigley Field or in the Wrigleyville area outside of the park.

The retail sportsbook will include betting windows and self-serve kiosks. The Cubs are the first Major League Baseball (MLB) organization to commit to opening a retail sportsbook on their stadium premises.

Sports fans interest in adding sports betting to their in-game experience has increased tremendously over the last few years. DraftKings is one of the worlds largest sports betting and daily fantasy sports outlets. They currently offer in-person and mobile betting in Illinois through a partnership with Casino Queen in East St. Louis.

In the last two years, legal sportsbooks have opened in 18 states with the District of Columbia, and several more states expected to launch sports betting markets in the coming months.

This summer, Capital One Arena in Washington, home to the Washington Capitals and Washington Wizards, repurposed its box office into a temporary sportsbook, operated by William Hill U.S., while a permanent sports betting space is constructed at the arena.

DraftKings co-founder and president, Matt Kalish has a vision of a hybrid sportsbook and sports bar at Wrigley Field. This type of situation would give fans a unique place to visit before and after a Cubs game for a beer and a few bets.
