St. Joe’s Edges Rhode Island by 1 with Wilson’s Three Pointer

Senior Chris Wilson caught the ball with seven seconds left last night and took a shot that many may not have had the confidence to shoot. The Fayetteville, NC native had missed another shot seconds before but that did not stop him from trying again as he knocked down a three-pointer to give St. Joseph’s the win 65-64 over Rhode Island(16-6; 6-3 A-10).

Senior Chris Wilson caught the ball with seven seconds left Wednesday night and took a shot that many may not have had the confidence to shoot. The Fayetteville, NC native had missed another shot seconds before but that did not stop him from trying again as he knocked down a three-pointer to give St. Joseph’s the win 65-64 over Rhode Island(16-6; 6-3 A-10). The win was the Hawks second consecutive win and their fifth straight win at Hagan Arena. With the win, they also snapped the Rams five game winning streak.

Sophomore DeAndre Bembry led the Hawks with 19 points and nine rebounds. James Demery finished with 11 points while Wilson and Isaiah Miles added 10 points each. E.C Matthews and Jarvis Garrett led Rhode Island with 17 and 14 points, respectively.

Rhode Island led for all but 50 seconds in the first half. They went into the half up 35-31 after a 11-4 run. In the second half, the Rams led by as many as nine, but the Hawks kept it close going 5-for10 from the three point line in the second half. Bembry scored 15 of his 19 points in the second half. In the final six minutes, the teams traded baskets and neither led by more than two points.

The Hawks improve to 11-12, 5-6 in the Atlantic 10. They head to the Bronx to face Fordham on Sunday at 2:30p.m. Last time these two teams met on January 14, the Hawks defeated Fordham by 11 in Hagan Arena. The game will be broadcasted nationally on NBCSN.
