unnamed (6)

St. Joseph kept rolling in the Big North Conference Freedom Tournament posting a second consecutive shutout with 5-0 win over Northern Highlands. The Green Knights have scored 15 goals in the past 2 games. In three matchups with the Highlanders, which St. Joseph has won all of them, they have scored a total of 18 goals.

“This is the sixth year in a row we have been in the championship game and so far 0 for 5,” said St. Joseph Regional Head Coach Larry Mahurter. “Glen Rock is a good team and they have our number but it’s time for us to rise to the occasion. We need to get a win to say we are a top twenty team in the state and can advance to the 2nd or 3rd round in the state tournament.”

With 9:49 left in the 1st period, Donny Cuttone scored the first of his goals on the night with a wrist shot past Northern Highlanders goaltender Richard Vincent giving St. Joseph a 1-0 lead. The Green Knights made it 2-0 with 2:59 left in the period as James Durante went 5-hole on Vincent increasing the lead to 2-0. Matt Coacciadiferro capped off the scoring with 12.5 seconds remaining (assist from Matthew McNamara).

“We never wanted to have a team feel that they can hang around for awhile and can win the game,” Mahurter said. “We got shots on goal and it was a dominating performance. It was important for us to get three goals off the bat.”
