St. Lucie Mets Kevin Taylor Among Best in Florida State League

The St. Lucie Mets have one of the best hitters in the Florida State League on their team in Kevin Taylor. He is a lefty that splits time at first base and in the outfield.

It has been an improbable journey for the former 36^th round draft pick out of Western Nevada College. After being taken by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2011, he spent three years at the Single-A level before being released.

Taylor then went and played independent baseball for the Laredo Lemurs in the American Association where he was spotted by the New York Mets scouts. The organization signed him in February of 2016 and he has proven to be a nice addition to the St. Lucie Mets.

He currently leads the team with seven home runs and 34 RBI and is second on the team with a .309 batting average. He has done a good job of filling the gap in production after Amed Rosario was called up in June. In a recent 10 game stretch Taylor hit two home runs, had 11 RBI and raised his batting average from .294 to .309. During this stretch he was named the Florida State League Player of the Week for his performance.

Taylor ranks second in the FSL in OPS with .858, second in batting average with .309, fourth in slugging percentage with .466, and third in OBP with a .391 average.

In less than a year in the Mets organization, Taylor has established himself has an integral part of the St. Lucie Mets and as one of the top players in the Florida State League.
