Baseball Staten Island Yankees Announce New Manager by Arlenis J. Pena February 17, 2018 As Spring Training rolls around and we get closer to Opening Day its impossible to not get excited for the upcoming baseball season, especially when there will be new faces rolling around. The Staten Island Yankees are not immune to new faces. On February 17, word got out that Lino Diaz, who has been a defensive coach for the Gulf Coast League Yankees the past couple of seasons, will be the new leader of the A-short affiliated team of the New York Yankees. Diaz will be taking over for Julio Mosquera who led the team to a division championship with a 46-29 season in 2017. Mosquera will now be part of the Charleston Riverdogs. The Staten Island coaching staff will be completed with Ken Joyce, who will be joining Diaz as the hitting coach, and returning as the pitching coach is Travis Phelps.
