(SI Yankees – Photo Credit: Wendell Cruz/Double G Media) The Staten Island Yankees closed up the regular season on a high note, completing the sweep of a two game series against the Brooklyn Cyclones on Thursday night with a 8-4 victory. The win went to Yankees’ RHP Daniel Alvarez (3-4, 4.16 ERA), where he allowed five hits, two runs, a walk and struck out seven in five innings pitched. The loss went to the Cyclones’ RHP Noah Syndergaard (0-1, 13.50 ERA), who allowed three runs on three hits, two walks, and two strikeouts in two innings pitched. The bullpen took over after the fifth inning. Will Jones, Greg Weissert, Eduardo Rivera and Justin Kamplain combined to hold the Brooklyn Cyclones offense to five hits, two runs and a walk, while striking out seven over the four innings. Center fielder Andy Diaz went 2-4 with a double, two RBIs, a walk and 2 runs scored. Shortstop Wilkerman Garcia went 2-4 with a double and a triple and three RBIs. Designated hitter Kyle Higashioka went 2-3 with two solo shots and a walk. With that, the Yankees now concentrate on the New York-Penn League Playoffs, where they will face off against the Hudson Valley Renegades. The following information was released by the Yankees: STATEN ISLAND- The Staten Island Yankees with enter the New York-Penn League Playoffs with the best win-loss record (46-29) in the McNamara Division.This will be their third consecutive year reaching the playoffs. They will face the winner of the wild card, division rival the Hudson Valley Renegades (44-32; Tampa Bay Rays affiliate). They are set to play a best out of three semifinal series. The first game will take place on Saturday, September 9, at Hudson Valley. Game 1, Sept. 9, 5:05 p.m.: Staten Island Yankees (RHP Jorge Guzman, 5-3, 2.30) at Hudson Valley Renegades (RHP Tobias Myers, 4-2, 3.54) Game 2, Sept. 10, 4 p.m.: Hudson Valley Renegades (RHP Drew Strotman, 2-3, 1.78) at Staten Island Yankees (RHP Jonathan Loaisiga, 1-0, 0.53) Game 3 (if necessary), Sept. 12, 7 p.m.: Hudson Valley Renegades (TBD) at Staten Island Yankees (TBD) The winner of this series moves on to the NYPL Championship to face the winner of the semifinal series between the Mahoning Valley Scrappers (44-29; Cleveland Indians affiliate) and Vermont Lake Monsters (42-33; Oakland Athletics affiliate).
