The Staten Island Yankees fell to State College, 6-5 on Friday Night. This loss allows State College to advance to the next round of the playoffs. For the Yankees, this is a disappointing loss as they were bounced from the 1st round since 2008. The 6-time league champs will now pack there bags and head home for the off season.

State College got on board in the bottom of the 3rd on a double by Andy Young. They would add another run in the 5th inning on a sacrifice fly by Young. Heading to the top of the 7th, the Yankees still trailed 2-0. They would erupt for three runs in the frame to take the lead 3-2. A single by Dom-Thompson Williams, a double by Nick Solak, and a single by Timmy Robinson would account for those runs.

Things would go south for the Baby Bombers in the bottom of the 7th. Pitcher Chad Martin would walk the lead-off batter. Martin would get the next two outs, however, the runner would advance to second. Jeremy Martinez would then single to tie the game at 3. Two batters later, Ryan McCarvel would hit a line drive home run to left field. Many question head coach Davie Bialas’ decision to keep Martin in after State College tied the game.
The Yankees, as they had done all season, would answer right back with two runs of their own in the top of the 8th. Kendall Coleman would lead off with a triple. Angel Aguilar would then single him home, trimming the lead to 6-4. A wild pitch allowed Aguilar to advance to 2nd. Ben Ruta and Dom-Thompson Williams would strike out back to back. Nick Solak would then double, scoring Aguilar. With the Yankees only trailing by one, Drew Bridges would come to the plate in the most important bat of his Yankees career. A single would tie the game. However, he would ground out to the second basemen, ending the inning. In the 9th, the Yankees would have another opportunity, as they had a man on 2nd with only one out. However, they would strand the runner and lose the game.
The Staten Island Yankees season has come to a close. However, they showed what the core of young players can do for the Yankees organization. They finished with a 44-31 record, in which they had a blazing start in the beginning of the season. They cooled down and even struggled in the middle of the season, but picked it up when it mattered the most. Nick Solak proved that he can play second base at an elite level, as in 64 games he hit .321, which was 4th in the league. On the pitching end, Simon De La Rosa showed he has nasty stuff. He went 6-4 with a 3.38 era, including 76 strikeouts. The future is bright for this team and the Yankees organization as a whole. Even though their season ended a bit early, the Baby Bombers will be back strong as ever next season. It will be a fresh start for them, including a new team name. The future is bright!
