Staten Island Yankees Stay Alive With Game 2 Win

The Staten Island Yankees came up big Thursday night, as they were able to save their season with a 3-2 win. The Yankees season was on the line, as they lost game 1 of the opening round playoff series at home. In game one, the Baby Bombers were held to just five hits and were shutout, en route to a 3-0 loss.

A sense of urgency came upon the Yankees to start game two, as they got on the board in the first inning. Dom Thompson-Williams started the game off with a single to left field. He would advance to second on a fielding error by left fielder, Anthony Ray. Nick Solak would walk next, to put runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. After Drew Bridges would ground out to move both the runners to 2nd and 3rd, Timmy Robinson would come to the plate. He would hit a fielder’s choice, allowing Williams to score from third.

The game would remain 1-0 until the 6th inning, when the Yankees would add another run. Going into the bottom of the 9th, the Yankees were still up 2-0. However, Josh Roeder would give up two runs, tying the game and blowing the save. State College started the 9th with a single. A wild pitch would allow Danny Hudzina to advance to second. Yariel Gonzalez would walk, putting runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. A deep fly out would allow both runners to advance. The next batter, Tommy Edman would single to right field scoring two runs and tying the game. The game would go to extra innings.
The Baby Bombers would respond with a run of their own in the top of the 10th, as Drew Bridges homered to right center field.
Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the 10th, things would get even more interesting. Drew Lane came in to pitch for Josh Roeder. He would get the first batter to strike out, however, the next batter, Ricardo Bautista would single to center. An error by Drew Bridges, allowed Elier Rodriquez to reach on base and Bautista to move to 2nd. Danny Hudzina would walk loading the bases with only 1 out. A single would eliminate the Yankees and end their season, however, Lane would get Yariel Gonzalez to hit into a double play to end the game.
The Yankees held on to this one by the strings of their teeth, but nonetheless, there will be a final game to decide who moves on, Friday Night. De La Rosa will get the call, as he has been the Yankees most dominant pitcher this season. He hopes to mimic Frecier Perez’s five innings of shutout baseball in game two. Game time is set for 7:05 PM.
