Lancaster, Penn. – Missed opportunities plagued the Somerset Patriots (17-17, 59-45) Saturday night in a 10-6 loss to the Lancaster Barnstormers (22-14, 60-45) at Clipper Magazine Stadium. For the third straight game, Somerset opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. This time, it was a two-out RBI double from Christian Marrero to deep center field that gave the Patriots an early 1-0 lead. Two innings later, Justin Trapp scored from second base on a fielding error to increase the lead to 2-0. The Barnstormers took their first lead of the series with three runs in the bottom of the third. A run-scoring wild pitch, a Beau Amaral RBI groundout and a Cole Garner RBI single provided the damage. Lancaster added three more runs in the next inning on a Josh Bell groundout and a Nate Coronado (2) two-run home run to right field. Coronado tallied his third RBI of the game in the sixth on a sacrifice fly to increase Lancaster’s lead to 7-3. An inning later, Sean Halton (23) launched a two-run home run to left field, extending the lead to 9-3. After a Garner RBI single in the bottom of the eighth put the Barnstormers in from 10-3, Somerset began its rally in the ninth. Three runs would come home in the inning on an Aharon Eggleston RBI single and an Alfredo Rodriguez two-run base hit, but the comeback effort ended there. Rommie Lewis (7-9) earned the win after he allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and six walks over five innings. Lucas Irvine (7-3) yielded six runs (five earned) over four innings to take the loss. The Patriots and Barnstormers conclude their series Sunday afternoon in Lancaster. Left-hander Mike Antonini (0-0, 0.75 ERA) takes the mound for Somerset against righty Joe Gardner (0-1, 11.00 ERA) for the Barnstormers. First pitch at Clipper Magazine Stadium is scheduled for 2:00 pm. Tickets to the 2017 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford, which includes the team’s 20th Anniversary, are on sale now.
