Soccer Sunday’s Copa América matches included action from Group C by Staff Post June 6, 2016 Jamaica v Venezuela 0-1 In Group C’s opening match, Venezuela held on to a one goal lead to beat Jamaica. The lone goal of the match came in the 15th minute when a clearance attempt was intercepted by a Venezuelan defender. After a string of passes, Josef Martinez was able to beat the Jamaican goalkeeper giving his team the lead. In the 23rd minute, Jamaica would lose a man when Rodolph Austin was given a red card for a studsup tackle. Although playing with ten men, Jamaica had opportunities to equalize the game. Michael Hector took a strike that just hit the post in the 49th minute. Joel McAnuff launched a shot wide as the match neared the 70th minute. Wilker Angel almost slotted another goal home for Venezuela but Blake made a tremendous save keeping his team in the game. Unfortunately for the Jamaicans, they were unable to even the game before the final whistle. Mexico v Uruguay Sunday’s action wrapped up with a thriller between Mexico and Uruguay. In the 5th minute, Mexico took the 10 lead after Uruguay recorded the fastest own goal in Copa América . The scoreline would stay that way until the 74th minute when Diego Godin’s header equalized the game for Uruguay. Receiving a yellow card in the 27th minute, Uruguay’s Matias Vecino was shown a red card in the 45th minute leaving Uruguay with only 10 men on the field the rest of the match. Mexico’s Andres Guardado would be shown the red card in the the 73rd minute after he previously received a yellow card earlier in the game. In the 85th minute, Mexico’s Rafael Marquez struck the ball into the back of the net giving Mexico the 21 lead. Based on goal differential, Mexico leads Group C with Venezuela not trailing far behind. Hector Herrera would seal the game for Mexico in stoppage time after he headed in Raul Jimenez’s cross.
