Suttle Basehit in Ninth Inning Gives Thunder Series Win!

Bradley Suttle with the Thunder tied  3-3 and two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning lined a basehit to right field to give the Thunder a 4-3 walk-off win and another  series win over the Portland Seadogs in front of 7,394 in attendance on a beautiful Saturday night.

The scoring started in the second inning when Melky Mesa scored on a double play by Jose Gil to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead. The Seadogs came back in the third inning scoring two runs and leaving the bases loaded.

In the bottom of the third inning Austin Romine hit Portland’s Brock Huntzinger’s offering over the right field fence to tie the game at 2-2. The game stayed tied until the bottom of the sixth inning.

Jose Gil with two outs in the bottom of the sixth hit a rocket to dead center over the wall, Gil’s second homer in nine days. That gave the Thunder a 3-2 lead.

The score stayed that way until the top of the ninth inning when Portland tied the game on a Chih=Hsien Chiang solo blast to right field. In the bottom of the ninth the Thunder got three walks sprinkled with two outs when Suttle drilled a pitch over Chiang’s head in right field to score the winning run.

Craig Heyer fresh off the seven day DL lasted four innings giving up seven hits, three walks and a hit batsmen while only allowing two runs both earned. Okamato and Hernandes teamed up the rest of the way with Hernandes getting the win.

Thunder Claps

Austin Krumm was optioned to Wilkes-Barre Scranton today.

Starting May 24th the Thunder will play eight games in seven days including three games in Reading.

The Thunder are 6-2 against the Portland Seadogs this season.

The Thunder will try to break out the brooms tomorrow as they will attempt to sweep the Seadogs on a Sunday 1:05 pm start at Waterfront Park.

Manny Banuelos is slated to start for the Thunder.
