Swisher Salute: Nick Swisher Back with Yankees

NY Times

On Thursday afternoon, the New York Yankees made an official announcement that they have signed Nick Swisher to a Minor League deal.

Swisher was assigned to the SWB RailRiders and will make his first start on Thursday night at PNC Field. He is scheduled to play at first base and hit sixth in the batting order.

Swisher was a member of the 2009 World Series champion Yankees team and was fan favorite in New York.

Swisher was also an All-Star with the Yankees in 2010. Swisher has dealt with multiple injuries including two knee surgeries.

After being traded from the Cleveland Indians to the Atlanta Braves, Swisher was released in March. The 35-year old is looking for a regenerated start in New York and will play first base along with some outfield.

Swisher still does have to make the big league team, but he can provide depth at first base if veteran Mark Teixeira needs a day off or has health issues.

Either way, Swisher is back in the Yankees’ organization and Yankees fans could not be more excited.
