Baseball Teams Showing Interest in Phillies Starting Pitcher Jeremy Hellickson by Matthew Burks July 24, 2016 Jeremy Hellickson (Mitchell Leff/Getty Images) The Philadelphia Phillies have been rumored to be getting calls from a variety of ball clubs about many players on their current roster. One of those players is rumored to be right-handed pitcher, Jeremy Hellickson. Hellickson has been one of the Phillies more consistent players this season. The 29-year-old currently has a 3.84 ERA with 106 strikeouts on the season. Hellickson isn’t the type of player that is going to get a big time prospect, but he is a quality pitcher that can be a mid-rotation workhorse for a team that is making a run for the playoffs. Looking at the big picture, it makes sense for the Phillies to trade Hellickson. With only a half-a-year left on his contract, it seems ideal for the Phillies to trade him while his value is still somewhat high. Various teams have been connected to Hellickson. At his last start there were reports that four teams had scouts present to evaluate his game. Those scouts most likely went home with some positive information on the pitcher as he threw eight innings with eight strikeouts and only allowed one run. The Phillies asking price for Hellickson has not been verified, but has been rumored to be similar to what they asked for last season when they traded closer Jonathan Papelbon. That trade netted the Phillies some power arm prospects for their farm system, but not necessarily any guys that will develop to be great major league players. With the trade deadline looming, look for teams to be ramping up their approach and really start to hammer down some ideas for offers. The Phillies will be in a good position when it comes to Hellickson as well because with multiple teams being interested, they can drive up the bid in order to get as much as they can in return. Hellickson is a probable starter in the Phillies next series against the Marlins. However, if Phillies General Manager, Matt Klentak, gets an offer that he deems worthy of Hellickson before then, expect the trade to happen before Hellickson even steps foot on the rubber for his next start.
