Baseball Tebow Placed on Triple-A Injured List With Cut Hand by Katherine Obojkovits July 28, 2019 Tim Tebow’s time on the field for the Syracuse Mets will be put on pause after a left hand injury this past Sunday in Toledo. The 31-year-old was trying to field a ball in the outfield when the ball hit off his hand, resulting in cut that required eight stitches. While Tebow has been placed on the seven-day IL, Syracuse manager DeFrancesco said on Tuesday that there is no timetable for Tebow’s return. The former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback has been struggling so far this season in Triple-A, only hitting .163 with four home runs, 19 RBIs and 98 strikeouts through 77 games. In 2018, Tebow had an impressive run while playing with the Double-A Binghamton Rumble Ponies. Before a broken bone in his right hand in July kept him out for the rest of the season, Tebow hit .273 over the course of 84 games with six homers, 36 RBIs and 103 strikeouts. Tebow has been with the Mets organization since September 2016. Even though Tebow showed promise last year, his injury hindered his ability to continue to make strides and improvements at the Double-A level. Now, after barely making any noise in Triple-A and landing himself on the IL, it seems unlikely that he will be pulled up to play in Flushing this season, even as the Mets continue to sit in fourth place in the National League East.
