Temple started the game off slower than usual with just 23 points in the first half. The Owls point guard was the only player to finish in double figures for Temple, going 10-for-14 from the free throw line on the night. Jesse Morgan was the second highest scorer with nine. Both Quenton DeCosey and Josh Brown finished with eight each. The Jacksonville, FL native becomes just the 50th player in Temple men’s basketball history to reach the plateau. This season he has averaged 13.2 ppg, 3.9 assists, and 1.9 turnovers per game. For his performance last week, the Owls guard earned weekly American Athletic Conference honors. Cummings has been a consistently strong player all four years. He saw significant minutes his first year, but in his second season worked his way to a starting position in 32 of 34 games. Last season he played and started in 29 games. He was a Second Team All-Philadelphia Big 5 selection, second leading scorer for the Owls, first in assists and steals, and top in the conference for the same categories. This season has been no different. Cummings leads The American Athletic Conference in numerous categories. He is currently in the top five for assists, steals, assist to turnover ratio, minutes played, and almost for free throw percentage. He is also in the top 15 for his scoring average. It is of no coincidence that while out with a leg injury, the Owls lost three straight games. Since he has been back, Temple has won four straight including last nights win over the Bulls. With the win over USF, Temple improves to 16-7 overall and 7-3 in The American. The Owls have yet another away game as they take on Memphis this upcoming Saturday at1p.m. EST.
