College Temple Takes on Houston in AAC Championship Game by Renee Washington December 1, 2015 (Temple Football) Temple Owls (10-2), winner of the East Division takes on Houston(11-1), the winner of the West at TDECU Stadium in Houston, Texas this upcoming Saturday in the American Athletic Conference Championship. The game marks the American Athletic Conference’s first ever conference championship since it was created three years ago. The first AAC football game was on September 7, 2013 between the Houston Cougars and Temple Owls before 27,328 fans at the Lincoln Financial Field. Commissioner Mike Aresco did the pre game coin toss. Fast forward two years and almost two months, the Cougars and Owls are facing off again for a conference first, the championship with Aresco once again doing the pre game toss, but this time in Houston. Houston is ranked 17th in the Associate Press Poll and Temple is just three places behind them at No. 20. The last meeting between these two on Oct. 17, 2014, Houston won 31-10. In the four times the two teams met, the Cougars have been victorious. Not only is Saturday’s game important for a conference championship, but also a chance for a berth in the New Year’s Day Bowl. It will be a game with a lot at stake for two top 25 teams as they play for a championship and to a chance to continue their season. The matchup between Temple and Houston kicks off Saturday at noon ET. The game will be broadcasted on ABC.
