The positive effects of a potential brand split in WWE

With the surprising return of Shane McMahon on Raw last week, we were hit with a curve ball. The mention of Shane running Raw was presented as a stipulation of him winning his match at Wrestlemania against the Undertaker. This sets up the possibility of the brands splitting up.

I think that this is great news because with the brand split, it offers the talent an opportunity to stand out much more on an individual show, rather than trying to squeeze in so many wrestlers into one event. This would help to build up better feuds.

The brand split would also provide a clear distinction between each show. I remember the good old days of the Raw and Smackdown split of the early 2000s. Many wrestlers were given a chance because of this. Legends like Eddie Guerrero, Rey Mysterio, Booker T, Randy Orton, Rob Van Dam and Chris Benoit took advantage of this. They helped to solidify the Ruthless Aggression era in WWE. Smackdown was this fast paced, exciting show filled a diverse roster that held the best wrestlers of our time.

Raw was the flagship show that showcased well known talent that wanted to take a crack at WWE after leaving WCW. People like Goldberg, Scott Steiner, DDP, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall.

Another great thing to look forward to is separate PPVs for the B-list events, like Fastlane, Night of Champions and Money in the Bank. It allows for more talent to be seen and might build up a bit of competition between the brands to see who can have the best PPVs.

All in all, I only see positive things coming out of this. Let’s cross our fingers that this is actually going to happen. Then the next question in our minds would be who is going to run Smackdown? Hmm, I wonder.
