Baseball The Yankees are falling apart by Chris Passarelli April 1, 2019 As mentioned earlier today, Giancarlo Stanton was placed on the 10 Day IL with a bicep strain. To make matters worse, Aaron Boone confirmed that Miguel Andujar has a “slight” tear in his labrum that may require surgery. If Andujar opts for surgery, his season will be over. Boone also confirms that he’ll start rehabbing and they’ll take it week by week. Aaron Boone confirms Miguel Andujar has suffered a "small labrum tear" and will be treated for a couple weeks. "Surgery could be in play." pic.twitter.com/nPKFEQJfQ9 — YES Network (@YESNetwork) April 2, 2019 Which ever way you cut it, it’s not a good sign for a Yankees team that already is wounded. I’m not sure if anyone foresaw this coming, and even if they did, they didn’t see the Yankees being the walking wounded. This now puts a ton of pressure on D.J. Lemahieu and Troy Tulowitzki to contribute. Tulo won’t have every other day off like he should have and with his injury he may break down also. Here’s the list of Yankees currently on the IL; Miguel Andujar Giancarlo Stanton C.C. Sabathia Luis Severino Aaron Hicks Didi Gregorius Dellin Betances Jacoby Ellsbury Ben Heller For having only played four games, that’s a lot of guys on the IL. Granted, Montgomery and Gregorius had season ending surgery last season but that’s still a laundry list of injuries. It also hits the Yankees where they’re not so deep. Their pitching is serviceable but their outfield depth leaves a lot to be desired. This isn’t the time to panic because it’s so early in the season and realistically many of these guys will be back soon. However, it will be a test to the Yankees’ depth. Can they keep up with another injury epidemic? Only time will tell.
