Baseball The Yankees are Looking to Bolster their Rotation by Anthony Khelil November 6, 2018 Rumors are swirling, predictions of where stars will land are being published, there is plenty of speculation, you know what that means? It’s Hot Stove season, and it is in full effect. There is good news that should interest the Yankees and their pitching needs. The Mariners are planning a full out fire sale, and the Indians need to cut salary cap. The combination could provide the Bombers with what they need to get over the hump and capture its 28th World Championship. The Mariners are looking to completely tear down their roster. This means that M’s ace James Paxton is most certainly up for grabs. The Yankees have been intrigued by Paxton for years now and this may finally be their chance to acquire him. Paxton is coming off two stellar seasons in Seattle. The tall left-hander pitched to a 2.98 ERA in 2017 and a 3.76 ERA this past season. His strike out rate is comparable to the Yankees ace Luis Severino, and he is under team control until after the 2020 season. New York’s General Manager has made it clear that the Yankees off season priorities start with addressing their pitching staff. A deal for Paxton would be a great start to the offseason. The rumors do not end there. The Cleveland Indians have come forward and announced that everyone on the Tribe is up for grabs except Francisco Lindor and Jose Ramirez. The team is expected to make former CY Young winner Corey Kluber and Carlos Carrasco available. The Yankees are already meeting with Cleveland’s Brass today at the GM meetings. There are a multitude of top flight starters available which is good news for New York. Competition between Seattle and Cleveland for top of the market arms should lessen the price it would take to acquire one. The Yankees have the pieces in place in their farm system to get a deal done. A potentially busy off season for Brian Cashman and the Yankees is heating up. Who would not want to dream of a rotation including Corey Kluber, Luis Severino, Patrick Corbin, James Paxton and Masahiro Tanaka.
