Baseball The Yankees should take a second look at Dallas Keuchel by Chris Passarelli March 5, 2019 It was an uneasy scene in Florida on Tuesday as scheduled started Luis Severino was scratched from his start for right shoulder soreness. The Spring Training game against the Atlanta Braves was supposed to be Severino’s first action of the Spring but after feeling tightness in warmups he decided against pitching. Hopefully this is precautionary but regardless of the circumstances the Yankees should take a second look at Dallas Keuchel. The former ace of the Astros is still currently without a home and although his stuff has fallen off throughout the years he still has a ton left in the tank and can be had for cheap considering there are no current bidders. Keuchel was also a noted Yankee killer and shut them down multiple times in the playoffs. Although Keuchel isn’t the same pitcher he once was, he’s still only 31 and between Severino’s potential injury and the uncertainty of C.C. Sabathia at the back of the rotation the Yankees need as much insurance as possible. If Keuchel winds up on the Yankees he would be welcomed with open arms. It would be a little odd having a pitching staff with four left handers but it’s better than having none. As long as the Yankees rotation stays healthy they don’t need Keuchel, but more likely than not the Bombers will go through some kind of adversity with all of the veterans they have. Keuchel is most definitely needed and should be at least thought of immediately. Severino will be getting an MRI on his right shoulder after the game, and we will make sure to provide any updates regarding his status for the beginning of the season.
