Hockey Thomas Greiss named NHL’s First Star of the Week by Chris Passarelli March 18, 2019 It’s no surprise but the NHL made it official; Thomas Greiss is the first star of this week. Greiss went 3-1 with a .959 Save % and a 1.25 GAA. Greiss has taken over the reins for the past two weeks after Robin Lehner went down with possible concussion symptoms after a hit from Brady Tkachuk of the Ottawa Senators. This award for Greiss is well deserved, and the goaltender has given a big boost to the New York Islanders over the past few games. His only loss was a game he really should have won, a loss on Saturday to the Detroit Red Wings, 2-1. Greiss played out of his mind on Sunday against the Minnesota Wild, making 32 saves and preserving an overtime victory. It was a game the Islanders had no business winning, just like the game on Saturday they had no business losing. As long as Greiss keeps ticking along, he’ll be seeing many more of these awards.
