Feature Three Things to Look For In Jets Second Preseason Game Jets host Falcons Friday Night by Staff Post August 20, 2015 After losing 23-3 to the Detroit Lions last Thursday night in their first preseason game of the year, the Jets will look to bounce back this Friday night at Metlife Stadium against the Atlanta Falcons. Ryan Fitzpatrick (JULIO CORTEZ/AP) The outcome of last week’s game is not too important, but there are a few areas of improvement to look for this week: Fitzpatrick – Ryan Fitzpatrick only played in one series last week so it’s too early to judge his performance. I know the last thing in the world the Jets need right now is an injury to their new starting quarterback, but I want to see Fitzpatrick get another series or two to start off the game. Keep in mind Fitzpatrick didn’t have the entire training camp to prepare since he was considered the backup. He hasn’t had too many reps with the starting offense yet. Defense – The Jets defense allowed 428 total yards last week. I know most of it was not against the starting defense, but the defense looked very sloppy at times. And the defense is supposed to be this team’s strong suit. The Lions came out last week and scored a touchdown on the opening drive with no problem. It took the Lions 2:34 to drive 71 yards in just five plays. I really want to see what improvements the defense makes this week. Matt Flynn – In need of another quarterback, the Jets signed veteran quarterback, Matt Flynn this week. He obviously won’t be the starting quarterback week 1, unless there is another injury (knock on wood), but he is a good quarterback to have as a back-up. Flynn is entering his tenth season in the NFL. According to NFL.com, Flynn has a career completion percentage of 61.3% and has played in 51 career games. It will be very interesting to see how successful Flynn is with this offense in the coming preseason games considering the lack of preparation time. However, Flynn is nursing a hamstring injury so it remains to be seen if he will even be available for the game.
