Thunder Break Out The Brooms!

The Trenton Thunder (24-18) swept the Portland Seadogs (12-27) on Sunday afternoon at Waterfront Park. The game featuring top prospect Manny Banuelos pitching for the Thunder was determined early by the Thunder.

Ray Kruml started the hit parade early with a basehit, advanced on a balk by starting Seadog Pitcher Stolmy Pimentel (0-6). Corban Joseph doubles to drive Kruml to the plate, then Bradley Suttle drives a pitch over the Hyundai Scoreboard in right field giving the Thunder a 3-0 lead in the first inning.

The Thunder started were they left off in the second inning with Jose Gil driving a base hit to left, followed by a infield hit by YadilMujica and Ray Kruml drawing a walk. Corban Joseph hit a sacrifice fly to right scoring Gil. Kruml then steals second base, Austin Romine then doubles scoring two runs and just like that the Thunder had a 6-0 lead.

The Seadogs answered with a run in the third inning an unearned run after Jeremy  Hazelbaker walked, Alex Hassan walked and errant pickoff throw to second caused Tim Federowicz to drive in Portland’s only run on a sacrifice fly.

That would be all the scoring in the game and all the Thunder pitching staff would need a 6-1 lead in the third inning.

Manny Banuelos went 4 2/3 innings throwing 98 pitches 57 for strikes and not allowing a unearned run for the second straight game. Cory Arbiso, Pat Venditte and Josh Schimdt combined to keep the Seadogs at bay. Arbiso gets the win and Schimdt gets the save.

Banuelos left an out short from getting his second win of the year but his pitch count is at 100 and running five batters earlier to full counts cost Banuelos a shot at the win. Banuelos struck out seven and walked four.
