Thunder Go Extra Innings For Win!

The Trenton Thunder had to go ten innings for the series clinching victory 4-3 over the Reading Phillies. It was the Thunder’s sixth straight win and allowed the Thunder to win the first two games in the series.The Thunder will go for the series sweep tomorrow.

Damon Sublett for the Thunder hit a dramatic two out top of the ninth inning homerun to tie the game and send it into extra innings. It was Sublett’s  first hit in a Thunder uniform since coming to the Thunder four games ago.

The Reading Phillies grabbed the first lead of the game and their first lead of the series in the second inning on a Derrick Mitchell two run homer. But in the fourth inning the Thunder would tie the game when Austin Romine and Jose Gil led off the inning with back to back doubles. Melky Mesa would then ground to short to drive in Jose Gil to tie the score at two apiece.

Reading took the lead back in the eighth inning after a RBI single by Michael Spidale giving the Phils a 3-2 lead. In the tenth inning Jose Pirela singled to left field and hot hitting Jose Gil hit a hard liner off the third basemans glove and Pirela hustled from second to score the eventual winning run.

Dellin Betances pitched six strong innings striking out ten batters and giving up the two run homer by Mitchell. Wilkins Arias and Fernando Hernandez combined to shut down Reading the rest of the way with Hernandez recording his seventh save of the season while Arias picked up his first win of the season.

The Thunder will attempt to break out the brooms again in a 11:05 am start on Thursday .

Thunder Claps

The Thunder have won seven out the last eight series.

The Thunder head to Portland after Thursday’s game to play the Seadogs to play five games in four days over the Memorial Day holiday.
