Thunder Scores Three in Ninth For Win

The Trenton Thunder (36-23) scored three runs in the ninth inning to secure a comeback victory over the Reading Phillies (31-27) last night in Reading. Jose Gil hit a sacrifice fly for the game winning RBI. The win snaps a two game losing streak.

During the first two innings the Reading Phils jumped all over the Thunder for four runs and the lead. But in the third inning Jose Pirela belted a leadoff homer to cut the Thunder deficit to 4-1.

In the fourth inning Pirela struck again with a pair of Thunder teammates roaming the bases, Pirela belted a three run homer to tie the game at 4-4. Pirela has three homers this season all in Reading.

Reading would score two more runs to take a 6-4 lead going into the ninth inning, with Trenton three outs away from their third straight loss, Cody Johnson smoked a lead off homerun to right center to cut the Reading lead to 6-5.

Jason Place then singled and scored on a Deangelo Mack double to left center field tying the score at 6-6 leading to the sacrifice fly scoring Mack.

Jason Schmidt then struck out the side in the bottom of the inning picking up the victory and giving the Thunder the chance to even up the four game series in the finale tonite. The Thunder dropped the first two games.

Thunder Claps

Dellin Betances will be on  hill for the Thunder tonight, catch all the action on WTSR-93.1 game time is 7:05 pm.

The Thunder come home tomorrow for a weekend series against the Binghamton Mets.
