Thunder Victimized Again; More Ninth Inning Heroics Quiet Trenton

Last night Derrick Mitchell hit a walk-off single to beat the Thunder, Tonite Derrick Mitchell hits a 2 run homer in the ninth inning to lift the Reading Phillies (31-26) past the Trenton Thunder(35-23) 4-2 in Reading. It is the first time the Thunder have lost back to back games since late April.

The Thunder scored early in the contest with Ray Kruml leading the game off with a double to right field and scoring on a Bradley Suttle sacrifice fly giving the Thunder the early 1-0 lead. The score stayed that way until the fourth inning when Thunder batter Cody Johnson launched a solo bomb onto the Pavilion in right field. The homer was Johnson’s eleventh of the year.

Once again the Thunder pitching could not hold the lead in Reading for the second straight night the pitching staff allowed the Reading Phillies to score the tying runs late this time allowing two runs to tie the game at two each’

The score was 2-2 going into the bottom of the ninth and Derrick Mitchell launched his two run to left field to secure the loss for the Thunder. Fernando Hernandez (5-3,4.28)of the Thunder was tagged with the loss . The third game of the four game series continues tonite at 7:05 pm.

The Thunder have not won since briefly taking first place at home against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
