TNA’s Debut on Pop to Feature Semi-Finals and Final of World Title Series

TNA Impact Wrestling’s move from Destination America to Pop is approaching soon. I have mentioned the deal with the CBS Corporation-affiliated program and the implications it could make for TNA. When Impact Wrestling re-debuts live January 5th on its new network, they will be going all out to exceed expectations.

It was recently announced on TNA’s website by company President Dixie Carter, that the semi-finals and finals of their World Title Tournament will be on the debut episode on the network.

The semi-finals will feature Matt Hardy against Eric Young, and Bobby Lashley squaring off against Ethan Carter III (EC3). The winners of those matches will fight in the main event of the show that night to become the TNA World Champion. The round-robin tournament was first held after TNA’s Bound for Glory event, where Matt Hardy defeated EC3 to become the new champion. Matt’s brother Jeff was the guest referee, and it was deemed controversial that he might have helped his brother win. EC3 “filed an injunction”, and soon after, Hardy relinquished the title. The tournament was then announced to crown a new champion. A lot to process, I know.

What came after was months of exciting matchups. Brackets provided, getting the women involved, and having the show solely focus on this, made it feel important This storyline has been very refreshing for the company, which has been criticized in the past for their lazy booking, along with the repeated “TNA is dying” comments.

What is interesting is that Matt Hardy and EC3 are on opposite sides of the tournament brackets, giving the possibility of a rematch. That could be considered somewhat contradictory for Impact Wrestling to spice things up like it has been, only to go back to the basics. However, there is always a chance for a surprise result. There could be various outcomes for this match, which make things very exciting for TNA Impact and Pop.

An opportunity has risen for TNA Impact Wrestling. Months of waiting and planning are about to come to fruition. Pop may be taking a gamble on the company, but so is Impact Wrestling. The first show they have together on January 5th will be the first test of TNA’s future. Here’s to crowning a new champion, and a possible lucrative deal. Otherwise, Impact Wrestling may hear the final toll of the bell in the not-too-distant future.
