Baseball Todd Frazier of Rutgers and Toms River Wins Home Run Derby 2015 by Jayson Love July 13, 2015 from nj.comTodd Frazier played Little League ball in Toms River and his college baseball at Rutgers. In dramatic fashion, New Jersey native and current Cincinnati Reds’ third-baseman Todd Frazier “walked off” with the Home Run Derby championship in front of Reds’ fans at Great American Ballpark. He won the derby with the clinching homer, his 15th of the final round, which was 1 more than rookie Joc Pederson in added bonus time. Frazier, who played his college ball at Rutgers University, sits third in the National League on 25 homeruns and will represent the state of New Jersey and the Cincinnati Reds in tomorrow’s All Star game. The power-hitting third baseman has been the subject of trade rumors all season, but currently is the toast of the town in both Cincinnati and his home town of Toms River, New Jersey. His brother, Charlie Frazier pitched tonight, serving up pitches belt high all night that Frazier hammered over the left field fence with regularity. Todd Frazier used a late barrage of homers to surge past former champion Prince Fielder in round 1, and nipped Josh Donaldson 10-9 in round two. He seemed to get stronger as the night wore on and saved his best performance for the finals as he smacked 15 of the 39 homeruns he picked up on the night. Frazier’s longest bomb was 422 feet and he averaged 384 feet per homerun. It’s been a banner month for Rutgers University as its alumna Carli Lloyd notched 3 goals in the United States’ victory over Japan clinching the World Cup for US Women’s Soccer and now, the school boasts the MLB’s home run derby champion.
