Two huge matches set for ROH’s Manhattan Mayhem on July 20

At the G1 Supercard show inside Madison Square Garden, several Ring of Honor titles changed hands. Now, the former champions want their titles back.

Taking place inside the Hammerstein Ballroom on July 20th, ROH will be holding their annual Manhattan Mayhem event. Two big matches scheduled to take place on the show? Matt Taven defending his Ring of Honor World Championship against former champion Jay Lethal, and Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa of New Japan Pro Wrestling will defend the ROH World Tag Team Titles against Jay and Mark Briscoe.

Both matches for the ROH World and Tag Team Titles in April were considered some of the best matches of the night. Lethal is looking for his third reign with the ROH World Title. He lost it to Taven in a ladder match, also featuring Marty Scurll. The New Jersey native has become a true workhorse for ROH, competing in competitively long matches for the promotion since first becoming champion in 2015.

Since winning the title, Taven, a former self-claimed champion, has been ordered to defend his title whenever there is an event. The leader of The Kingdom, the Grand Slam Champion is willing to do whatever it takes to keep the title in the city he won it in.

The war between NJPW and ROH continues, as The Guerillas of Destiny (Tanga and Loa) look to keep the titles they won in a four-way bout at the G1 Supercard. They beat EVIL and SANADA, Villain Enterprises (the champions at the time) and The Briscoes. There has been some great back and forth promos between The Briscoes and G.O.D. lately, making this title match extremely personal.

The Briscoes are looking to hold the titles for the 11th time, increasing their record. G.O.D. are hoping for successful title defense number three, although it will be extremely hard considering the bout is a New York City Street Fight. Both teams like to brawl and curse, so having their playground in New York City is as poetic as ever.

Tickets for Manhattan Mayhem are available now through Ticketmaster.com. Prices start at $40 and go up to about $270.
