Two keys to a 49ers victory in Super Bowl LIV

The San Francisco 49ers made it to Super Bowl LIV by playing elite defense and running the ball down their opponent’s throats.  Jimmy Garoppolo has been good for them, but he really hasn’t had to do much.  He threw for the least amount of times in NFC Championship history, throwing the ball just eight times.

Raheem Mostert ran for a record 220 yards and scored four touchdowns on their way to the Super Bowl.  They disposed of the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers with ease.  This matchup against the Chiefs will be their biggest test thus far.  Let’s have a gander at what the 49ers need to do to win Super Bowl LIV.

Contain Patrick Mahomes

Similar to how they kept Aaron Rodgers in the pocket, Nick Bosa & company will need to make sure the Chiefs’ leading rusher doesn’t break the play and scramble around the pocket.

The Niners are a dominant defense and were able to contain Rodgers, Russell Wilson and pretty much every other quarterback they’ve played thus far this season.  Mahomes is a beast, both with his rocket arm and his incredible ability to run the football.  If the Niners can keep Mahomes in the pocket and pressure him, they’ll have a good chance to win this game.

Feed Raheem Mostert

Raheem Mostert has been a beast for the San Francisco 49ers.  He came out of nowhere at the beginning of the season, as most expected Tevin Coleman to be the bellcow of this Niners’ offense.  Mostert polished off the NFC Championship game with four touchdowns and a record setting 220 yards.

Jimmy Garoppolo may be the quarterback that can lead the Niners to the promised land, but he’s no Joe Montana or Steve Young.  This team relies on their offensive line and their running game.  If Mostert can let loose for a few long runs, it’ll make it much easier for Jimmy G to navigate through the erratic Chief’s defense.
