When Governor Andrew Cuomo legalized mixed martial arts in the state of New York, we knew it was only a matter of time before the first UFC fight since 1995 would be held in the Empire State. And now, we are a little more than two months away from the much anticipated fight night.

Late Monday night, UFC announced that in a potentially history making fight, Conor McGregor would fight Eddie Alvarez. Tuesday, there was a press conference.

And the fighters, are already in a New York state of mind.

When McGregor was asked what his alter ego, “Mystic Mac” thought about his lightweight title fight, he had this to say.

“I run New York. I run this whole city! Mystic Mac predicts I’m going to knock you [Alvarez] out in one round.”

Just like that, the Irish flags were raised and the fans went wild. You could hear the “Conor” chants outside The Theatre at Madison Square Garden. And after the press conference, fans were walking throughout the Garden still talking about the McGregor-Alvarez headliner fight.

However, it is not just the fight for the lightweight belt that is headlining UFC 205.
There are also some hometown favorites that will be fighting at The Garden.

Long Islander, Chris Weidman will face Yoelv Romero on his home turf. Weidman, has not fought since dropping the middleweight title nearly a year ago.

When asked what it’s going to be like fighting in front of his hometown, friends and family he left us with this. “It’s a dream come true.”

But once again, it was McGregor who stole the Garden. When asked what it means to fight at a place as legendary as Madison Square Garden, McGregor continued with his tone.

“The Irish, we built this damn town,” he said. “We built this city. Now I’m back. I’m coming to claim what’s ours.”

But will he claim that second belt?
